Our experience in conducting Maximo implementations has led us to develop several tools to simplify repetitive or laborious parts of the implementations process associated such as migrating between environments. Project Management and Requirements Analysis

Interloc recognizes that the success or failure of a Maximo project can often hinge on the quality of project management.  Interloc has developed an extensive Project Management methodology for application in client projects.  It addresses the role of the Project Manager through every major project task, from pre-project preparation to planning and analysis, validation of requirements to post go-live support, and the establishment of checkpoints weeks and months past go-live to determine overall client satisfaction.

A core component of project management is for the project team to review any available as-is and to-be process documentation, and the associated requirements for final validation. This ensures a shared vision and involves:

Maximo Performance Tuning

Once your Maximo system is in place, you may find that maintaining optimal system performance is a challenging task.

Interloc can assist your Maximo performance tuning challenges by examining the following areas:

Workflow Development

Interloc has implemented automated workflows for a large number of clients.  Automated workflows are a mainstay of the Maxio application because they enable and enforce records to flow according to your specific business processes.  The wide variety of workflow tools now available with Maximo allows developers to meet the vast majority of workflow requirements using out of the box functionality. 

Interloc consultants will work with you to create a workflow from a defined business process.  We will help you:

  • Determine which parts of the process should be automated, and to what result
  • Design the workflow and review it with business resources
  • Develop the workflow in Maximo

Interloc typically prefers to split the design and build between functional and technical consultants to ensure that the client’s functional processes lead the development so that business needs are met.

Data Conversion and Migration

Interloc believes that data conversion and migration begins with jointly identifying our clients' business data and deciding what should be migrated, how it will be employed, whether it needs to be transformed, and determining its current storage location. Data can come from:

  • Legacy system
  • User spreadsheets
  • Directly from the workers in the field

Once the data to be migrated is identified, Interloc analyzes the data and determines how to map it from the existing sources to Maximo.  To assist with data loading through the MIF and to reduce the repetitive tasks involved in configuring the MIF for each data load, Interloc has developed data loading tools for mapping, performing data loads, and monitoring progress through the MIF.

Report Development

Nearly every Maximo implementation requires the development of reports – it is one of the key methods of gathering meaningful data from your Maximo system.  Interloc's team of functional business experts can help to identify the report needs that an organization has, and Interloc's team of technical report experts are proficient in developing Maximo reports in BIRT, Actuate, Crystal and SQR.  Interloc's reporting experts are also proficient in using external reporting packages, Maximo’s KPI manager, Maximo query-based reporting tools, and via the creation of data sets and database queries. 

Delivering reports isn’t just about developing reports.  Interloc provides the following Maximo reporting services to our clients:

  • Definition of reporting needs in all relevant areas of the system, to all appropriate users
  • Evaluation of existing reports against reporting requirements
  • Reports design and development
  • Conversion of reports between different reporting tools
  • Identifying the most effective ways to retrieve meaningful data from Maximo on a case-by-case basis
  • Developing KPIs or providing data results sets through alternative reporting methods
  • Providing reports training to end users, developers, administrators, and managers

Technical Tools

Interloc has developed a number of tools to simplify some of the repetitive or time-consuming tasks associated with various parts of Maximo technical projects.  We use these tools as appropriate while conducting development activities, and provide them free to our clients to use throughout project engagements.  On completion of our involvement, Interloc can remove the tools from the client environment if desired, or leave them for the client’s use moving forward.

  • The Interloc Release Manager is a tool that simplifies the migration of configured and custom elements between Maximo environments.  The Release Manager functions as an integrated part of Maximo, and allows you to select specific elements of one environment to move to another.
  • JUnit automated testing to simplify all stages of testing.  Whenever a change is made in Maximo it may require dozens, sometimes hundreds, of regression tests to verify the correct operation of both the new functionality and the existing functionality.  Manual test scripts are very time consuming and often impractical to perform for regular releases.  For this reason Interloc has developed specific extensions to the automated testing tool JUnit to allow it to interact with Maximo.  We have developed a base Maximo test fixture that provides base features for logging in and out of Maximo as specified users, performing work flow actions, interacting with MBO objects, as well as providing utility methods for performing spell checking (useful for checking workflow instructions) and other laborious tasks.

User Acceptance Testing

User Acceptance Testing (UAT) ensures that your users get what was expected. Interloc recommends a phased approach to UAT. Interloc works with our clients to determine the testing process, format of test scripts, requirement and responsibility for test scripts, and issues tracking.  

Additionally, Interloc can further help to construct the tests and provide a mechanism for tracking and resolving issues. The client would normally conduct the tests themselves with Interloc providing assistance and rework for any identified items.

Interloc recognizes that perhaps the most important part of a Maximo implementation is ensuring that you are well prepared to take over your Maximo system post go-live.  Interloc ensures that both Maximo administrators and Maximo end users are comfortable with their new system by offering a number of training opportunities.
